Hi Skinnies!

I’m not sure how many of you have ever even heard of Basil Seeds, but it would be my pleasure to introduce you to an amazing health powerhouse that you will be glad to know more about!

I was introduced to Basil Seeds through a friend of mine name Ashley.  We were at an oriental market and she saw this sweet drink that she really liked  and told me it was DELICIOUS!!  It looked different but it reminded me of a drink I like that has CHIA SEEDS floating in them.  But these weren’t chia seeds they were basil seeds!  Needless to say I didn’t try the drink because I didn’t care for the other ingredients in it, but the basil seeds intrigued me.  At that very moment I took out my phone and Googled it!  When I saw the wonderful benefits of Basil Seeds I immediately went back into the store and asked if they sold basil seeds.  I was soooooo happy when the clerk to me to them and of course I bought my first bag of basil seeds and made my own drink with them once I got home!

So, I know you may be wondering WHAT DID I LEARN ABOUT BASIL SEEDS?!  Here are the TOP 3 Benefits I like about Basil Seeds:


1. Nutritional–   Basil contains many polyphenolic flavonoids especially Orientin and Vicenin. These provide the antioxidant benefits. High levels of beta carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin, Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Contains good amounts of minerals like potassium, manganese, copper, calcium and magnesium, and vitamins C and folates. Excellent source of iron at 40 percent RDA per 100 grams.

2. Digestion–  . Basil seeds are commonly used to provide relief from stomach upset. Due to its carminative effects, it is effective for treating digestive disorders such as stomach cramps, flatulence, provide relief from constipation, irregular bowel movements and indigestion.

3. Weight Loss–  Due to the fact that the seeds swell to 30 times its size, it is said that if you consume basil seeds before eating it actually helps to curb your appetite and help you to not eat as much, thus aiding in potential weight loss.  This also ties into your digestion.  When we properly digest our food and eliminate waste and toxins, weight loss is an added benefit!

With all these benefits I will add that you are perfectly bound to have clearer skin and overall well being!! A BONUS!!

Basil Seeds-2

There are many ways you can use Basil Seeds, most recommend adding them to water ad allow them to swell, then consume.  As usual I will tell you how I use it and you can feel free to Google other recipes.

I like to prepare a drink with an all natural juice and lately I have been using a Cranberry Juice blend and I add additional raw 100% cranberry juice from Trader Joes.  The drink is a bit tart BUT does and amazing job in the body…I know this first hand, I mean you will feel “CLEAN as a Whistle” (which I don’t know what that really means, but it just popped into my head) .  Let’s just say after drinking my cranberry drink with my swollen Basil Seeds I had a CLEANSING experience!  I felt so good the following day though!

So here is what you do:

Take about 1 tablespoon of Basil Seeds and add them to about 8-16 oz of Cranberry Juice Blend (please read the label, you do not want anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup)  and a 100% cranberry juice (this helps to increase the Cranberry Content which has a load of great benefits for your urinary tract and digestion as well)

I prepare this at night and place in the fridge to drink the following day.  By the way, I use a mason jar for this.  You will notice that the basil seeds swell but not as much as they would in a warm liquid but that is fine because you still have LOTS of gelatinous seeds that will just slide down your throat.

I forgot to take a picture of mine because I’m not always thinking about how I can use these things in my blog but I’m trying to be as descriptive as possible. 🙂
